Good idea; thanks.
Chapter 14: Working with Graphics and the Gallery
Remove from this book? [...]
I would suggest that it is removed, or at the very most a brief mention
in an overview. Graphics and Gallery is not GSG material - especially
if it can be covered in depth in the full users guide.
Please see ghrt's note (and my reply) which I am sending to the lists
along with this one.
Chapter 15: Using Fontwork
I would agree this is also a candidate for removal.

The section on inserting hyperlinks could go somewhere else in the GS book [...]
Hyperlinks as... an appendix? Hmmm not the best either. If it's
documented in the users guide, is it necessary here?
Not sure that it's needed here. I believe it's something that a lot of
people do, but I'd be happy to leave it out of GS.
[...] come under the definition of what a GSG should cover?
We've never really decided what a GSG should cover, and opinions
varied when this was discussed at OOoAuthors several years ago.
A bit of history on this book might be useful. For OOo 1.x we had a
book titled "Common Features" which did not include the chapters on
the various components, plus some "Intro to OOo" chapters. You can
find the list here, if interested:
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors/
For OOov2 we morphed the book into Getting Started and the component
chapters were added. IIRC, we had a discussion at the time about the
purpose and audience for the book, but came to no clear conclusion...
so as is my usual habit, I just hurled a book together. :-)
BTW, my original idea was to try to keep the book under 200 pages (250
max), and when I (in my alter-ego of publisher-ofprinted-books) put
out the first printed edition, I left out the chapter on macros. The
book continued to grow and is now close to 350 pages.
May I add your comments to the thread on the forum?
