Hi, I have also noticed a lack of discussion on the mailing list. If you want to grow your community outside of who is currently involved you need to have discussions in the open where other people can be involved. That may include people in other timezones which instant messaging is not good at. The mailing list is also archived and easily searchable allowing new user to find answers to questions that have been brought up before and to easily get up to speed on the project. As we say at Apache "If it didn't happen on the mailing list it didn't happen.".
