Saluton,

Mi havas okazon por iu kiu paroli la angla tre bone.

...so the rest of this email will be in English.

I'm searching for one or two people who speak very good English (and reasonably good Esperanto) to learn the two areas I am currently responsible for in regards to the translation of Openoffice.
Both areas require good English language skills although English does not need to be your first language.

Opportunity #1:  Native Lang / Openoffice interface
Responsibilities:  Issue handling, working with Openoffice and Sun employees, working with other internal OOo projects such as lingu (spelling and grammar checking), communications (newsletters and such), and occaisionally marketing. This position officially is responsible for contacting other Esperanto organizations (e.g. UEA) to solicit support from them for the project.  Currently Tim has been helping with this because of his connections but also because he is more proficient in Esperanto than I am.

Opportunity #2: Build Manager, Code Monkey
Responsibilities: Using a linux distribution, build test releases of Openoffice (about 6 hours to build on a fast machine) in Esperanto with the lingu=eo flag.  Test all changes implemented in the code. I've done a massive amount of work here so only the items left in the status report at http://eo.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectDocumentList    ...and many folks in the Japanese Openoffice group also speak Esperanto so they have occaisonally been building EO test versions for me.

The reason English is very important for these two positions is that all communications, documentation, and even programming code is in English.

Officially there are two projects within our EO project:  Native Language, and L10N.   Officially, I run the Native Language project and Tim is my backup.  Tim officially runs L10N, and I have been his backup.  Together, we work to achieve our common goal.  Both of the positions above, as part of the Native Language Proejct, require heavy interaction with Tim and will continue to do so (or with whomever takes on his responsibilities per his email).

I am looking for one or more people to train to take over these jobs.  I am doing this for a few reasons:

1) Like Tim, my life is very busy and I am not able to spend more than a few hours a month on this project.
2) If I get hit by a bus, someone will need to relearn all of this the hard way.
3) I've been here since the beginning and I think it will be good to have someone else be the lead.  We have a saying in English: "A new broom sweeps clean".
4) Pretty much everyone who is reading this has better Esperanto capabilities than I do.  At times I feel I am doing a disservice to the project for not having sufficient skills to do some parts of the job.

I am not running away so I will still be here to help out. It's the leadership and decision making for the two areas above which I am looking to turn-over.

If you are interested, please email me directly, in English.

Thanks,

Joey
