Marcel Offermans commented on FELIX-896:
----------------------------------------
About the home page, I agree the "news" section is way too long, we should only
maintain a top 3 or so there and move the rest to the news page.
About a three column layout, that's possible, but it breaks the current design.
The lower case menu options are also something that was taken from the design.
About the menu and site layout in general, it would be nice if we would have
some kind of data on how people navigate the site. I think we should keep
things simple and have the main menu contain the items which are the most
important to our users. Perhaps we should also reconsider what we have on our
home page, and make that contain more links.
My suggestion for the main menu:
* about (move much of the current homepage there and also the links to the
license, asf, sponsorship and sponsors)
* news (same as currently, all news)
* downloads (same as currently)
* getting started (move documentation/getting started and
documentation/tutorials and organize this to get people going: downloading and
running felix, writing your first bundle, and the items that are currently
there)
* getting involved (move mailing lists and contributing links to here and
documentation/development, documentation/community)
* subprojects (move documentation/subprojects, and perhaps format that page to
have some kind of grouping and at least reference compendium stuff more
explicitly)
* faq (I'd say this is important enough for the main menu)
For the home page:
* keep a short list of news and upcoming events
* shorten the description about what Apache Felix is a bit more than is
currently done
* put our top three links on there (maybe even one, just a short "download and
get started with felix" teaser and link)
