I think option with reverting will not be so painful. Changing everything from 0.8.0 to 0.8.0-SNAPSHOT is almost automatic doing that: mvn versions:set -DnewVersion=0.8.0-SNAPSHOT As for the copy manually I think that would be everything what option distribution produce in Maven. At least that is how I imagine.
