Roshan, The reason we are committing these patches now is that Flume-1.3.0 is about to be released - perhaps in the next week (you can see the release activity).
As of now, Apache Bigtop has Flume-1.1.0 in it, and if we release Flume-1.3.0 without being able to build with hadoop-2.0, the next release of Bigtop which Roman mentioned in another mail, would be mid-November I believe (correct me if I am wrong here) - would still have Flume-1.1.0, despite the fact that a much newer version, flume-1.3.0 would be available (compared to flume-1.3.0, flume-1.1.0 had very few features, it was mostly a bare framework). I don't think we should wait for Hbase to push their artifacts to maven to release flume-1.3.0 (does not look like there is a timeline for that). These patches are being put in to unblock Bigtop. Once Hbase pushes their artifacts to maven, we can go ahead and make the changes to the pom.
