We should definitely commit something that will work with some final released HBase supporting Hadoop 2 once that's available. That seems to me to be the scope of FLUME-1618, and thank you Roshan for driving that effort.
Since Bigtop wants Flume 1.3.0 to work with their 0.5 release, it makes sense to put something in that would work for them in the meantime and since Roman has kindly provided patches that will work with Bigtop now then it was pretty easy to do that. This is just a short term fix.
