Hi Paul, Thank you so much for your generous note—it truly means a lot to the team and me. Your perspective on Geode’s lineage and evolution adds a wonderful historical dimension to the work we’re doing today. It’s inspiring to hear from someone who has seen the journey from GemStone’s distributed cache to where we are now.
You’re absolutely right that balancing robustness with architectural agility is an ongoing challenge. To be candid, we haven’t had the luxury to contemplate a new architecture for a long time. Much of our energy has gone into keeping our heads above water—remediating security vulnerabilities and tackling long-overdue technical debt such as Jakarta EE 10 migration, Java LTS upgrades, modernizing our build system and CI pipeline, and updating various frameworks. That said, your offer to share architectural insights is greatly appreciated and couldn’t be more timely, as we’re gearing up for the release of Apache Geode 2.0 in the coming weeks. Having someone with your experience weigh in could help us think beyond the immediate fires and toward a more sustainable future. Thank you again for reaching out and for your willingness to contribute. Collaboration like this is what keeps innovation moving forward. Even in my admittedly short time participating in the Geode community, I don't believe I've ever seen someone turn down a request to pitch in and help! Institutional knowledge and historical context like yours is invaluable and would be a boon for current project development. I'm eager to hear what you think of the new ideas and directions folks have proposed.
