I don't have a particularly strong reason for scratching 0.4.3 except that 1.0 is where they started calling it 'production ready'.
I guess we could just repackage Dojo as two plugins - one for 0.4.3 and one for 1.0.1 and have the version as part of the path. Then gradually move things over. I do think that it will be worthwhile to rework the console to use the new version eventually though. Supposedly, the new widgets are more stable and faster.
