Does everyone agree that this is a reasonable change?  I'd prefer it if you 
could override individual options rather than this being an all or nothing deal 
... but perhaps that is better than what we have now.  Opinions?  As pointed 
out we should check the other commands as part of this change and ensure that 
they are consistent in the treatment of overrides.
