As far as I know, out-of-core is part of the roadmap for Giraph (not that we
can't change our minds if we find out it's infeasible/not needed).
My understanding is that we still consider in-memory computation the preferred
use of Giraph, but we have an additional mechanism that replaces failure with
performance degradation.
The key here is not changing the design in ways that would actually worsen the
standard, in-memory use case.
