Avery, thanks for looking! For 1) https://reviews.apache.org/r/8361/, I did 2),
and I'm already working on 3). There I'm also changing that the limit for
flushing messages is not the number of messages, but the actual serialized
size, so we'll be able to predict the desired size better.
Eli, thank you for the comment, I don't know are the buffers reused, but will
definitely take a look!
