Indeed, but my point is still valid I think, the material grows without bound. I can certainly accept having the documentation included if consistency demands it, but having an unbounded number of installations just seems wrong to me. I tend to operate a policy (for kernels and suchlike) of current version plus last known to work version as backup. I wonder if something like this could be adopted as a default for the wrapper cache -- with an option to keep all history. > > Another question whilst on this topic -- IS it necessary to have a jar > > cache in ~/.gradle -- I have (naïvely) supposed the Ivy and/or Maven > > cache would have been used directly. OK, I am coming to this afresh so am not aware of all the past history of decisions made, hence the newbie question :-) My only excuse is that it is always good to revisit decisions from time to time just to ensure all the conditions, inferences and deductions are still valid! I have noted something else I need to raise a query on: ~/.gradle/cache holds information about resolutions as well as the jar cache. Is it necessary to keep the entire resolution history as seems to be the case now, or is there a way of trimming this automatically. The problem here is not so much the disc space per se (the files are all very small), the problem is the potentially huge number of files (again unbounded) in a single directory. There is a finite limit to the number of files that can be stored in a directory but I accept this is unlikely to be reached. Really I am just worrying about tidiness and removing unneeded clutter. -- Russel. ==================================================== Dr Russel Winder Partner Concertant LLP t: +44 20 7585 2200, +44 20 7193 9203 41 Buckmaster Road, f: +44 8700 516 084 London SW11 1EN, UK. m: +44 7770 465 077
