Hooray! I think this will be good for Gradle. I think your proposed breakdown makes sense. I especially like the "layered" approach for the plugins. We are currently do something very similar for our project (for developing IDEA and TeamCity plugins) and it's working out nicely. The 'plugins' directory provides a place for a build.gradle that contains common stuff for all plugins.
BTW: I know Mike added a task to his list this morning to split the gradle-ui stuff into a separate module after we saw you had done this. He was excited! -- John Murph Automated Logic Research Team
