I have been to many major Android events and user groups in the last couple of months. I really can't second what you are saying. Most people are very excited about the progress. Major Android Apps have moved (e.g. Twitter for Android). There have been many justified complaints that certain stuff of the new tooling ecosystem is far from production ready yet (in particular the Gradle-Android Studio integration). All parties involved worked hard to improve this and it has now reached a reasonable state with much more things to come. I'm happy to talk with the 'Ant Anonymous group' about whatever their objections are. I would be interested in more details. The current system is already so superior to anything Ant has to offer. But to be honest, I don't take this very serious.
