Hello everyone,

what is wondering me from the UX-perspective is the fact that:

1.) IF you want to change the select option (template or open an existing presentation), you need to move your mouse in the upper left corner of the Wizard

2.) to proceed then further you need to go in the opposite direction, namely to the bottom right corner in order to click next/finish [some other steps are usually interspersed in between - like e.g. selecting the actual template]

3.) IF you want to change something during the next step, you need to get back to the top left corner.

4.) Then again back to the bottom right corner.

Sequential operations should be grouped together not apart on the opposite sides of the diagonal.

Now, lets analyse this a little bit further:
- the picture to the right (the preview) does NOT contain any active elements,
so the mouse would NEVER be there (you simply won't click it)
- move therefore rarely-used buttons to the right, below the preview:
  CANCEL and HELP
[HELP is the least used one]

- and move BACK/NEXT and CREATE to the left

In this way, frequently used buttons/options are below each other in close proximity. This design isn't perfect, but is more functional. For a much improved design one has to completely rethink the wizard, and I do not have time now.

Sincerely,

Leonard

i will give it a go, could the text be on an overlay on top of the graphic

add any value

Text on an overlay is technically possible but would need quite some work
to realize. You had to come up with some data file in which to store the
text, the font, size and colour of the font, and the position of the text,
possibly different for every language, because of the different text
lengths. Some but not all of this could be handled by the resource file
that is currently used for the wizard.

Besides, half of the text ("Presentation Wizard") is already part of the
title bar and does not need to be repeated so close to it.

So, I would prefer a version without text.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your effort. I like that new graphic.

Usually [EMAIL PROTECTED] would be a better place to present new
UI elements but it is good that you have posted your proposal here,
because
there are two technical problems:

The minor issue is that there are five pages of the presentation wizard,
not three. Check "From template" on the first page and you will see
pages
four and five.

The bigger problem is that the graphic contains text which has to be
localized for non-english versions. For every language we would need
five
new graphics. I am not sure if this could be integrated into the
translation process.

I do not want to discourage you. Maybe you can design a version without
text?

Best regards,
Andre

i have made a replacement for the graphic at the top of the presentation
wizard (sorry if this is the wrong place to send it)

if anyone is interested I have posted it here on the forums:
