As an example, while testing on Windows and Debian lenny, using the
DejaVu Project font family [1], on Windows you can use all the 21
available fonts, whereas on GNU/Linux the condensed styles are not
available on the font selection dialog (whatever OOo application you use).
Perhaps this is bug 80424
(http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=80424) which added my
patch from http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=79878 which
makes these types of properties visible to the user.
seems that, but my small search was limited to TrueType, for which the
current UI may be enough I think.
Beside I was thinking of user interchange between the two platforms
(e.g. migrating to OOo to Linux), then he/she will found the same font
on either platform.
It seems that in order to decide the TT family on Linux, OOo uses the TT
'Preferred family' name instead of the TT 'Family name' as it does on
Windows.
I don't know if this is under OOo control or it's platform depended though.
