Yandong, Thanks for moving this to the dev list for discussion. Any chance Tim is a member of the HAWQ dev community? If not, any chance we can invite him to the discussion. He's one extremely valuable and knowledgeable individual ( https://medium.com/tradecraft-traction/64-people-you-should-know-in-design- f28cf3c2cfaa#.gjrsa3av7)!
Again, I do not have much context on the design decisions of the current HAWQ website so I might be a bit off with my responses to your three items. 1) Remove 'More...' link and corresponding section I don't like the idea of removing the "More" section completely. The section points to the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) links. Many other Apache projects have similar sections. However, they are named something a bit more appropriately than "More". Here are a few examples. - Menu name: "Apache" (right most top-level menu item) - http://cloudstack.apache.org/ <http://cloudstack.apache.org/> - Menu name: "Apache Software Foundation" (right most top-level menu item) - https://accumulo.apache.org/ Feel free to review additional Apache project home pages ( https://projects.apache.org/projects.html) to get a feel for the significance of having ASF links (many forms: nav bar, drop-down list, footer links, etc). Option: I'd suggest we rename the section from "More" to "Apache" and leave it at the far right end. 2) Move 'Doc' link to the end of the tab list If it is moved, I would move it to the menu section just to the left of the "More" (hopefully renamed) menu item. 3) Change 'Source' in download section to a link, instead of using a big blue button. Even though we have a single download at the current time, as the project starts releasing more artifacts (source and binary), it will be important for visitors to select different release versions. I believe the page is designed to support multiple download pages. I'm in favor of leaving it as is for the time being. Additional considerations: - The top-level menu item changes to a drop down menu as the web page is resized (mobile device support). If we rename/reposition items, this would have to be taken into account. See attached screenshots for nav bar and drop-down menu reference. - Similarly, the page flow is consistent with the nav bar menu item flow. The page may have to be adjusted to account for this.
