I'd like to make sure that HBASE-28431 <https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-28431> makes it into 3.0.
Nihal has PR up for https://github.com/apache/hbase/pull/6258 for the diagnostics code refactor (would be helpful if you could take a look) and I have an older WIP PR for the Hadoop-less assembly. I think we can wrap that project up in the next 2-3 weeks.
