Sure, I will look into it - I will create another JIRA issue when I am done
with the coding.
I also share your uneasyness, and wouldn't even be considering this were it not
for JProfiler flagging it up as a bottleneck, and one I felt had a
straightforward fix.
Incidentally, my first thought when I saw CharArrayBuffer was that it was a
custom implementation of functionality already available in Java, in particular
StringBuilder and StringBuffer, and to a lesser extend String or NIO CharArray.
I understand that it is probably such a fundamental class in this library that
it is worth reimplementing though.
