Don't expect a quick response. I submitted a feature patch to bugzilla over a month ago and it hasn't changed state from its "new" state or had any activity or ownership changes. I posted a followup message here a few weeks later and have not received a single response. I continue to read messages here to see if this process described in the below URL actually works or if I just need to maintain separate patches for the version we use at GE indefinitely- something I don't want to do...

You're quite correct - feature requests are generally not going to get as quick a response as a bug fix, or a security issue.

Sometimes you'll get lucky and somebody will pick it up straight away, but sometimes you're going to have to post a couple of times before somebody picks up on your patch.

In order to speed up the process, ask first whether the patch might address a specific need people might have. The need that is solved by the patch might be solved another way without the need for patching anything. You're going to get a far better response from a direct question than you will if you just post a patch without any effort to convince people of its usefulness.

You did the right thing about putting the patch into bugzilla - this way your patch won't fall through the cracks. Even if it is not pulled into the final source tree, it will still be available for people to use.

Graham
