"Proxyrequest on" turns httpd into a forward proxy, yes.
OK. I'll add something like a 'default worker' for that. Perhaps even add some circular buffer to speed up the hostname resolving. Not sure if the balancer can help in case of forward proxies. If you think it can, some use case will help a lot.
