You can run 2.4 today! That's what Fink is for!!! My last job I was in a Mac shop...first thing I did was find out how to get un-mac-ified opensource tools. Didn't take me long to find fink and have a completely parallel gnu system running side-by-side with OS X. Similar to running cygnus on a winblows box.
