Any interest in seeing if the Async write completion code in trunk would be suitable for backporting to 2.2?
I don't want to do the legwork if it'll just be shot down :) (The basic idea is to see how much parity we can have between 2.2 and trunk, to keep divergence at a comfortable level...)
