Yann's research is starting to point towards the latter IMO. This may be as simple as the page manager caching and reusing the un-cleared page mapping on subsequent hits. You would need to overwhelmingly vary the page content served to test this theory. But the same caching wins for libld[l] ... Which doesn't segv during os updates. Probably due to copy-on-write mechanics.
