Hi Jeff,

About item 1 and 3, I don't think DTP dependencie is a problem, it will really make the whole idea simpler. At least here (Brazil) this is a common plugin and is very hard to find a web developer without it.

2, I'm weak in extension points, I know the main concept (IOC) but I don't know the right way to use it. HMO this is a good option, if the guy don't have DTP he will be able to continue using the plugin as it is today (but, today, the plugin just write a template xml - and this could be done by a simple copy and paste).

I saw a great amount of code to help to edit the the abator xml config file - today this is the plugin: a xml editor - I'm right?

To write this file (the abator config file) you have to know by heart your database structure, table and column names and edit the file. This is cool when you have just a few changes to do, when you have an entire database to specify this is really boring!!!

4, this is the idea, but the xml will save a lot of rework when we had to regenerate the classes. The same wizard can be used to change the xml file.

Well, as you can see my english is a kind of criptogram. 8)

Right now I´m trying to get the columns from the database metadata ...

Woody

Subject: [jira] Commented: (IBATIS-402) New Wizards to Abator for Eclipse using the DTP packages ...

Jeff Butler commented on IBATIS-402:
------------------------------------

I think this is a very interesting idea and I like the general concept. However, I would implement it a little differently...

1. I don't want to make DTP a pre-requisite for installing the basic Abator plugin. So I would prefer that this enhancement be packaged as a seperate plugin.

2. I will need to restructure the current plugin to allow an extension point - this should be fairly simple to do, so I'll take a look at it.

3. I think it would be good to be able to reuse the Connection that DTP is using - again, I'll need to make a change to Abator to allow this.

4. I think it would be cool to make a wizard that would generate code without an XML file. You can configure and run Abator completely in Java - so I think that it should be optional to persist the configuration in XML.

What are your thoughts about this?
