Yes, this is by design (although over in Kudu they've moved a lot of their
Gerrit traffic to a separate mailing list). For now, I think it's not a bad
thing to have all the dev discussion in one place, but could be convinced
otherwise.

GMail filtering should make it possible to automatically archive these
threads in the short term.
