Hi Christian, thanks for the feedback.

(The whole point of this package is to get rid of these) Yes, I am talking about shared-mime-info and the mailcap & mime.types modification postinstall part only. The legacy stuff should remain in the suse and redhat packages. > > Since these are just names,... I think it is only a matter of time until also SuSE/Novell will adopt /usr/share/icons (as they did with /usr/share/mime etc.). So the desktop-icons package would install to /usr/share/icons and the suse-menus package would create corresponding symlinks in /opt/gnome and /opt/kde as necessary. > > To sum-it up: I'm sceptical about this. Those new packages would always be installed. However I am not sure what happens if one tries to relocate unrelocatable packages. Of cause there is still the problem that only the redhat- or the suse- or the freedesktop-menus .... package can be installed. > So I suggest having a "master" makefile that does all the makefile stuff > and let the menu-packages (spec-files) assemble the package (similar to > the way the freedesktop-package is created - take the "master tree" and > remove everything you don't need) > > This is about the same effort that you'll have with seperate > desktop-icons and mime-data packages (maybe even less) Actually I am not very happy with the makefile magic as you call it. However doing it once (e.g. in desktop/share) would also be a viable approach. > > PS: > Is is really not possible to put the menu-packages into a subfolder of > the release-tarball? > http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=46530 Hmm, need to take a closer look at it.
