Good morning, I am glad to be member of the mailing list I have just joined in order to contribute to the OOS battle.
Let me firstly introduce myself. I work, as IT specialist, in the IT department of the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance where I am involved mainly with standards, interoperability and re-use of SW. As XML expert I promoted a project of a Repository of the tax administration XML Schemata that, happily, having been approved, is now going on through a dedicated WG. I could call myself some sort of, let me say, "open standard and open source evangelist" inside the tax administration and outside as well (when opportunities arise). In this regard, inside the ministerial panel for the OSS guidelines, I have strived to insert in the final official document that public administrations should produce their documents in open standard format. Unfortunately, uncle Bill's lobbying eventually succeeded to dilute the strength of the requirements:( cfr. http://www.innovazione.gov.it/ita/normativa/allegati/indagine_os/6_2.sht ml Recently I have proposed, for the 2006 activity planning, to pilot the introduction of an open standard based office suite (i.e. OpenOffice) by a set of users. I hope that it will be approved by the top management and, as fars as I know, there are many chances that it should. Having introduced myself, let's to the core of the matter.
