Konrad Windszus commented on JCRVLT-781:
----------------------------------------

bq. what would be the plan how to support them when needed?

I personally don't plan on maintaining older versions, however I am fine with
creating a branch similar to what we have for 3.2.8 (latest version supporting
Java 7). Then everyone may backport patches there. However given the history
that I am pretty much the only committer on FileVault I think it is rather
unlikely there will be another Java 8 compatible release....

bq. the new version should be either 3.9 or even 4.0.

Yes, increasing major makes sense, so 4.0 will be the new version.

> In order to get rid of the Commons IO dependencies and leverage Jackrabbit
> API/Commons 2.22.x (requiring Java 11) FileVault should require Java 11 as
> well.
