Okay. I wasn't sure how to do that and whether my observation was even
correct. I'm not very good at using JIRA... (We tried to use it for
internal project management a while ago but eventually gave up, it was
just too complex for the team members)

It was correct - and I'd filled in some dates, and not also said "it's a
release".
The release process documentation has been updated - as I went through
the steps and edited them to make sure they were update and reflected
the actual experience.

I also got releasing the build wrong (deleted the to-be-released bytes
too early :-() as well but svn saved the day!
