This definitely should be fixed for 1.1 but probably won't make the RC.
If anyone wants to tackle it, I'll give you a clue:
We should detect that shell redirects and such are being used and call
out to sh to launch the subprocess. That would, I believe, make all
cases of shell redirects and such work correctly.
