Mike basically summed up the reasons, but we figured with Github's
featureset, starting by cloning from there would open the door to
people doing forks+pull requests, following, and so on. It makes
very little technical difference...what you get out of Github are
the social aspects.

On the 'difference' thing I meant wrt the repo contents: are these
going to be in sync,
or will one be more bleeding edge, etc.
