All the Linux packages and our upcoming OS X installer need to install JRuby in
an "exploded" form, where the usual "jruby home" is split up across
/usr/**/bin, /usr/**/lib, etc. In most cases, this is achieved by a patchset
that twiddles our bash script. Since this need is common to all *nix
environments, we should try to improve our bash script to support exploded
execution more easily.
The patches used by Debian may advise a solution:
