Yes .. it is a tradeoff for the flexibility you gain. I just wanted to
mention the effort needed to do this.

Cellar just needs to be tested against one or more Karaf releases;
just like ServiceMix components are frequently tested against
different ServiceMix releases. Its no biggie really.
Given the modular nature of OSGi you probably want to test any OSGi
component against a number of different containers anyway.
