Larry McCay commented on KNOX-980:
----------------------------------
This patch seems to make assumptions about topology names that I believe is
linked to another outstanding patch in Apache Ambari which hard codes topology
names. Hard coding deployment artifact names across projects is not something
that I can commit on either side.
I believe that there are a couple different efforts underway that will make
this better.
# Ambari has quicklink profile and configuration available to specify the
topology/URL to use for a given QL. This will be extended to not hard code
topologies for each UI but instead to select the URL exposed by Knox for a
given URL within a topology/s.
# There are folks involved with Spark that are looking at a comprehensive
service definition with rewrite rules that do not assume topology names or
deployment mechanisms such as Ambari.
# There is a Knox Improvement Proposal one pager for improving the UI
deployment such that UIs are less cumbersome to write and maintain rewrite
rules for. See
[https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KNOX/KIP-9+Simplified+UI+Rewrite+Rules+and+Proxying]
In the meantime, I suggest that topology creation and related rewrite rules for
these sorts of scenarios need to be considered part of the cluster provisioning
and setup steps for a given environment. There is nothing keeping admins from
scripting the creation of such topologies and changing the URLs in the Ambari
quicklinks.json file.
