I don't think that .po is the best file format for doing this job. Is
there any way for .po files to carry formatting information without being
mixed up with content? If would be helpful to see a sample file just to
understand how it works.
Another solution comes to my mind, but I don't know if it's feasible.
Why not to use ODT export extension [1], then translate the document
with the preferred CAT tool (or convert it again, for example to XLIFF
[2]) and then use Sun Wiki Publisher extension for OOo [3] to put the
content back?
You can also use the MediaWiki API to get files from the Wiki and put
them back. There is some work being done with that concept already, but
I don't know how far long they are right now.
It also will be helpful to know how other teams are translating wiki
content, just to share experiences and best practices.
Definitely. I'm interested in anything you (the NLC and L10N
communities) have to suggest. My goal is to try and make translations
manageable - focus on the Documentation section of course :-) I don't
know yet what the best solutions will be, but we can and should be
working towards them - basically, the Wiki as it is now, with the tools
as they are, are not the end point and all we have to work with...
Contacting other groups working on online translations is a good idea...
who though? KDE/Gnome communities? The WikiPedia teams? I don't have
any contacts within external (to OOo) translation groups.
