Actually we should finally get rid of this stuff.
When we work with URIs instead of paths, and IMO we should
*only* work with URIs, then this is not necessary.
i'll try and fix these things when i see them.
out of curiousity: how do the drive letters map to the file:/// uri
scheme? and does java also use the file:// convention for relative paths
and file:/// for absolute ones?
