Yes, but in the live area it is at least possible to use
caching and to optimize the presentation for your site's
requirements. But I agree that the live area of the default
publication should become much faster than it is now.

Yes, that is an important point to discuss, especially since you
and hopefully some of the others have experience with delivering
a site to many users.
