42385 still seems to be alive and blocking after the toString() patch.
When the bug bites the result is too bad for a release, I think.
I agree, whereas IIUC the toString() patch didn't break anything but
just brought the flaws of my code to the surface :)
Help maybe on the way - if you find the time I'd appreciate if you could
have a look at the patch:

I stripped down the patch to the (hopefully) relevant bits (we don't
have a host and port in our internal URLs), and it seems to do the
trick. Some more testing would of course be greatly appreciated.
