I agree. We had a discussion about this in the past and we decided that
a binary was good to have.

together with a start script, or create a .war, or something entirely

I would just say everything need to run, which is a bit more the build I
think. Plus then a start script. A war would require them to have a
running application server. They should be able to download and run
lenya.sh or lenya.bat and have a chance to see the default publication.
IIUC this would mean that we just zip a pre-compiled Lenya? Or maybe one
without the src/ and externals/ directories to keep it smaller?
If additional effort is necessary, I'd suggest that we omit the
binaries, at least for this release.
