We've had some discussions here at RMLL about our editors, and here is
what is being proposed.
Kupu
-------------------
Move Kupu into the unsupported contributor modules area. Kupu hasn't
been updated in a long time, and their website from what I can tell is
offline. This editor doesn't appear to be used by many. It causes user
impression problems as it doesn't work properly under IE or Firefox due
to our schema.
BXE
--------------
The proposal is to change the default rng we use. This would break out
of the box support for BXE. Instructions need to be posted on how to
easily make the rng changes to make BXE work.
Multi-Forms
------------------
Drop the forms editor to the unsupported contributor modules section.
The source editor is vastly better. This code could be quite useful for
other sorts of projects, however.
FCKEditor
-------------------
Move to the contributor modules section. I haven't been tracking changes
to the CKEditor project, although I probably could get it going
relatively quickly. Community seems to be in favor of TinyMCE over CK.
TinyMCE
---------------
Tighten up our TinyMCE integration. Change the rng to support a larger
subset of XHTML than BXE currently does. Provide crystal clear
instructions on how to install TinyMCE in a getting started guide.
Firedocs
----------------
Move from contributor into main project. Would be promoted as our best
arbitrary XML editor and supplant BXE in that role. It should play
nicely with the expanded RNG schema used to support TinyMCE. Need to
figure out a good plan for distributing the actual Firefox module for
ease of use for the end user and for automatic updates.
-----------------------------
What do others think about any of these action items?
