Isn't "ad hoc" latin? If so you could simply mark those words as latin and install the latin dictionary.
A grammar checker would still be needed just in case the word combinations do not make sense but that is normnal isn't it?

AFAIK spell checking only works on words. A word is defined as anything
delimited by white space (or maybe dots etc). So there's no way to mark
"blah hoc" as incorrect while accepting "ad hoc". That's because a spell
checker knows nothing about context, which is also the reason there's no
grammar checker in OOo (grammar checker = spell checker + context).

An approach could be to accept "ad" and "hoc" and have a grammar checker catch the error if they do not occur in combination.
