I read through the readme file in the stuff from open office org download and i have two questions:
( 1 ) What do the dots "." mean in the dictionary files. Sometimes they are at the begining and sometimes at the end and other times at both ends. I wrote my program to run of the hyphen.mashed file ( no extrenuous comments and nonsense ) and I just recently noticed the dots. I checked the readme and it said absolutely nothing about the dots. If anybody knows or knows where I can find the answer please let me know.
( 2 ) What is this nosense about Knuth's algorithm and "a slightly midified state machine". I researched state machines and looks at the explanation but what the **** does it have to do with a hyphenation program. My code already meets or beats the times in the file and I used an algirithm from scratch. This qustion isn't that important, I'd really like to know the answer to #1.
