Hi,

I did not write patgen or the alt linux hyphenation code (which is based on patgen) but
AFAIK, the dot anchors the pattern to either the start of the word or the end of the word.

so .blah means the pattern only matches blah at the beginning of a word
blah. means the pattern only matches words that end with blah

Hope this helps.

Kevin

I read through the readme file in the stuff from open office org download and i have two questions:

( 1 ) What do the dots "." mean in the dictionary files. Sometimes they are at the begining and sometimes at the end and other times at both ends. I wrote my program to run of the hyphen.mashed file ( no extrenuous comments and nonsense ) andI just recently noticed the dots. I checked the readme and it said absolutely nothing about the dots. If anybody knows or knows whereI can find the answer please let me know.
