Hi Clytie, I would like to talk with your colleague to see if we can join our efforts to have a better dictionary. Ask him to drop me an email with his progress and IM contact.
I've CC'd this email to Duy, and to you, Ivan, so your address is in the headers. Duy, if you have time, please talk to Ivan about your dictionary work. You might be able to combine your efforts.
1. Currently my Vietnamese Ooo dictionary it's the normal Free Vietnamese Dictionary Project but reformated for Ooo. I couldn't make a more complex dictionary because of my lack of knowledge about the language, but I think Duy's idea about recognition of compound words is great, but difficult, he may need help from me in technical aspects.
His main problem, I think, is time, but it's certainly worth exploring possibilities.
2. I remember having forward to the Dicooo team the Dicooo translation you sent to me but I never got answer thought.
You then said, in a later email:
Hello Clytie, can you resend to Daniel the Vietnamese language translation for Dicooo ?I think he can upload to the official FTP server. The Hunspell dictionary for Vietnamese for Dicooo can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/hunspell-spellcheck-vi/
OK, I'll do that straight away.
3. For the Ooo 3.x dictionary packaging that would be very easy, because it's a issue of packaging as an extension, the dictionary file itself won't change, for packaging, I will just take the packaging script from any other OOo 3.x dictionary and use it for the vietnamese.
Could that be done in time for the 3.0 release?
4. My vietnamese wife and I are doing well in Singapore, however, we feel observed and controlled by the Big Brother :-) , this country still lacks of Freedom of Speech. We are returning to Spain at the end of the year :-) after spending 2 month in Vietnam from August.
I am glad to hear things are going well for you both. Your wife will feel very homesick away from Vietnam. I hope you can meet other Vietnamese families wherever you are.
[I said]In my MacOSX DEV300_m14 build, I can spellcheck in Vietnamese, simply by choosing Vietnamese under Tools > Options > Language Settings > Language, then choosing the Hunspell dictionary listed under Writing Aids. Is this not your dictionary?
I'm not sure wether the MacOsX includes any vietnamese dictionary by default. Are you using a clean installation of the OpenOffice? or maybe you installed previously my dictionary and the update didn't delete it.[Ivan answered]
It could be either. I already have CocoAspell, as I said, so I can spellcheck in Vietnamese in any Mac OSX app. But I think it might be your dictionary, since it's listed separately from the OSX spellchecker as "Hunspell". OpenOffice.org users on Windows tell me there is no Vietnamese spellchecking. So we need to get your dictionary working in OpenOffice.org, ASAP! Releasing the full product without this essential feature will only reduce our audience, not increase it.
I'm currently using the Ubuntu version english openoffice.org-code 1.2.4.0-3-ubunt6 and they don't include the Vietnamese dictionary. My dictionary must be included trough the Dicooo using the LanguagePack you'll find here.http://code.google.com/p/hunspell-spellcheck-vi/
So, currently, even if the instructions in Vietnamese aren't there in Dicooo, users can follow them in another language (e.g. English, Chinese, French or Russian) and install your Vietnamese dictionary?
If so, we can put that on our website until your dictionary is integrated into OpenOffice.org. That would be much better than no spellchecker.
I'll suggest that to our language team, and see how well it works for them.
Thankyou for your help. :) from Clytie Vietnamese Free Software Translation Team http://vnoss.net/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=projects:l10n
