who is responsible now for maintaining the official en_US
dictionary for OOo? There is an extension on the extension website
but it's a bit older than the version distributed with OOo, so it
cannot be considered an update (it also has a wrong version
scheme). Ideally, the extension should become a bit more official
(so that the maintainer could be assigned issues in IZ to update
it) and the dictionary should be brought in sync with the current
distributed version (I've just found an error in it - it contains a
non-dictionary word 'underly' that is absent in all spelling
dictionaries I have access to - or marked as a typo).
I am responsible for the contents of the dictionary but Németh
László <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> is responsible for actually creating
the release. See "Additional Information" at
http://wordlist.sourceforge.net/.
Until a new official dictionary (or extension) is released you can
use en en_US dictionary I created for Mozilla which you can find
attached to this bug report:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=397150
or download it directly:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=290079
I am going to email Németh László to work out how to create new
official dictionary.
As far as I understand the new process, it should be created as an
extension. The problem is that there is already an en-US dictionary
extension there, so you might want to contact its maintainer to make
him/her responsible for updates (as Laci seems to be sufficiently busy
doing lots of work on hunspell).
And how will I do that, he does not provide any way to contact him that
I can see other than posting a public comment (and yes I logged in).
I've checked the ID of the extension offered - it's not the same as the
official dicts: org.openoffice.en.hunspell.dictionaries, so another,
official English dictionary extension can be built by the official
maintainers, which is you, Laci, or anyone else you think fit for the
role. It would be then picked up during update, and, according to the
plan that was posted here on this list some time ago, the extensions
will be automatically updated in OOo (=added to the source codebase)
based on the extension website in the future.
Regards,
Marcin
