not as nightmarish as cfdev.com home of activedit, it's bloody abysmal - have they been bought out?

*grumble*

In the not so user friendly issue tracker .. (click query database, then submit query)

Looks like some of your requests/enhancements have already been logged:

Funnily enough the list of cf functions is one of the things I missed but recently have found I no longer need it (although I do admittedly have to some times refer to http://livedocs.macromedia.com/coldfusion/6.1/htmldocs/functio
n.htm#wp308286
2)

It might be an idea to add a feature request. Did I mention there are 2 in-built browsers - one of these I requested (and

was it was

added almost the next day) specifically for referring to online help.

Seeing as u made a comment on the word wrap, I'll just

point out why I

find it useful.
When I have to edit pages where lines are really long,

2 or more

screens wide, it is a royal pain scrolling left and right

as well as

up and down and you can often totally miss a bit of

code you are

looking for. So turning on word wrap to get all your cod

eon the page

is useful for that purpose, even if it is messy.

I will certainly persevere with it a bit longer, but

some things I

really have trouble living without, like the tag editor and

right click insert.

Surely No-one can remember every possible tag and

function and all

their attributes, especially seeing as some tags have tons of attributes, and a lot of them are rarely used.
So those two features make life a lot easier.

E.G.
I have a list, I want to find an item in the list, I wonder

if there

is a function to do that.
Right click, insert expression, pull up a list of all the

functions,

look down the list, Ah Listfind(), that looks like the

one I need.

I am still using functions I have never used before

even now. With

CFEclipse, I will either have to refer to docs more often,

which take

a LOT longer, or memorise all tags, functions and attributes.

Russ

You're right some of the things in your list are missing - search and replace is in there, indent is in there (highlight the code block and then press tab), there is no page split and

(thankfully?)

no word wrap, no code sweeper and no RDS (MM wont open it up) but the great thing about CFeclipse is that its open source

so who knows

who will come along and implement all those features

in the next

month.

You can add bookmarks and descriptions to files which

is a bit

better than line highlight, you can also type TODO and have items added to a todo list, as pointed out help goes to

livedocs which in

my opinion is actually better than the stale help

available within

cfstudio/homesite.

But there is also a code outline view which homesite does

not have

as well a method view which lists all the methods for

a cfc and

allows you to jump to the selected method.

I'ts not for everyone but give it a try I'm sure you'll

get used to

it. For more info join the users cfeclipse mailing list @ http://cfeclipse.tigris.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList
Or have a butchers at spike's blog http://www.spike.org.uk/cfeclipse/space/start

Did I mention it also pours pints? ;-) Kola

OK for the purpose of editing NON CF code, I can see the

advantages of

using eclipse. But I am talking about the CFECLIPSE plugin specifically here.

When I tried it, I found a lot of things missing that I

like about

homesite.

Here are 10 I can think of form the top of my head

1) right click insert tag/function
2) right click tag editor
3) button toolbars
4) extended search/replace
5) page split
6) word wrap
7) break points/line hilite (very useful in big pages for

bookmarking

a
line)
8) indent/unindent
9) codesweeper
10) RDS features, such as database browser

So far as I can see, eclipse if a great all round

editor, but is

no replacement for homesite as a dedicated coldfusion IDE

Sure - the range of available plugins alone is

reason enough

-

Need css support?, db support?, need to edit an xml

document?,

dabble with <spit>PHP?</spit> - or do something in java?

Grab one of

the tons of plugins and have it all available within the

same IDE.

Not to mention source control support and being able to

compare the

current version of a page with the version before

you went

to the pub ;-)

Just wondering if anyone has found any benefits of using

eclipse over

homesite.
I have installed it and played with it, but it seems

very limited

compared to homesite for CF coding.
