If you have a backup file of the database, you don't need to create a new,
blank database to restore the backup. Just go all tasks-> restore, then
change the name to whatever you want to restore it as at the top, then click
the 'from device' radio button, click select devices button, click add,
browse for the backup file you want to restore, click OK all the way back to
the first screen (where you named what you want to restore it as). Click
the options tab, and you see a list of all file names with 'move to physical
filename' next to it. Click in this box, and you can change the file
path/name of where the new restore will be saved to. Change this to what you
need, and that's it. Seems a lot of steps, but it isn't really ...

Subject: [CF-Dev] Restoring a database with MOVE

>- see footer for list info -<
I have a database backup (SQL Server 2000) That I need to restore with
another name,filename.

So have created a blank database and am trying to restore over the top of it
using MOVE.
Obviously something is not right here as SQL Server is still telling me.

File 'proWorkFlow_v3_SQL_dat' cannot be restored to
'd:\MSSQL\Data\fused_PWF.mdf'. Use WITH MOVE to identify a valid location
for the file.

Can anyone spot my mistake.

RESTORE DATABASE fused_PWF
   FROM DISK = 'd:\backups\MSSQL\proworkflow_v3.7.bak'

   WITH NORECOVERY,
      MOVE 'proWorkFlow_v3_SQL_dat' TO 'd:\MSSQL\Data\fused_PWF.mdf',
      MOVE 'proWorkFlow_v3_SQL_log' TO 'd:\MSSQL\Data\fused_PWF_log.ldf',
   REPLACE
