I finally managed to get it to work. 

Yes, it already had the JRun seetings in the httpd.conf, Niklas - I had 
them copied over from the existing NT server. However, one item - 
Ignoresuffixmap - which is 'true' on the NT machine, has now been 
changed to 'false' on the 2003 machine (see below). 

I also made a small change to the wsconfig.properties file, to remove the 
initial (from NT) statement on line 1 to end "","","" instead of the NTs 
"Apache","","".

The relevant info came from:

(Manually configure the web server)

So now he has a working CF MX 6.1 Updater working on WS 2003, and quite 
speedy it is, too.
